NEW DELHI: The Congress has launched a “Speak-Up” campaign against the move by the University Grants Commission (UGC) to conduct final- year examination in colleges in September despite the spiralling spike of the Covid-19 cases nationwide.

Senior Congress leaders released video messages on Friday, demanding the UGC and the Centre listen to the voices of objection from academics and students and learn from what IITs have done. They demanded the students, instead, be promoted on the basis of their performances in the past examinations.

"It is extremely unfair to conduct exams during the Covid-19 pandemic. UGC must hear the voice of the students and academics. Exams should be cancelled and students promoted on basis of past performance,” said Rahul Gandhi. “Covid has harmed a lot of people. Our students in schools, colleges, universities have been struggling. IITs have promoted students after cancelling exams,” he added.
