Will form government only with Shiv Sena: Mungantiwar

Contrary to its Wednesday’s stand, BJP restrained from going ahead without Sena, even as the latter continued to hold out. BJP leaders Chandrakant Patil, Sudhir Mungantiwar and Ashish Shelar told the governor that along with pre-poll allies BJP had a majority but needed more time to form the government.
“The alliance of BJP and Sena has been in power for the last five years and has returned to power. It has been given a clear mandate. There has been a long delay in forming the government. We had a detailed discussion with the governor on the political situation and raised legal issues with him. Based on our discussions with the governor, our party leadership will take a decision,” said Mungantiwar.
BJP presented legal precedents to condone the delay while seeking more time.
The governor, meanwhile, sought legal advice from advocate-general Ashutosh Kumbhakoni.
Earlier in the day, Mungantiwar told the media that his party did not want to stake a claim as it was still talking to Sena and did not want to form a minority government. “We are not meeting the governor to form the government.
We will apprise him about the political situation, constitutional issues and provisions. Our efforts will be to ensure that we are able to form a stable government. BJP will not form a minority government under any circumstance,” Mungantiwar said.
“We had disagreements with the Sena earlier too but we are still together.
This is not as serious as those conflicts,” he added. The BJP leader said there was no attempt to lure away Sena MLAs.
“BJP and Sena MLAs could not be easily influenced to break from the party.” He said BJP would form the government only with Sena and not any other party.
