Road Transport and Highways minister Nitin Gadkari is contesting from Nagpur, a seat he won by a big margin last time. With his close ties with the RSS, Gadkari is seen by some analysts as a ' consensus PM candidate' should the BJP and its allies fall short of a majority. Though, he himself has rejected such suggestions saying he is not in the race. Gadkari also held the portfolios of Shipping and Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation, and has won praise even from political rivals for his work. He was also president of the BJP from 2009 to 2013.
