PM Narendra Modi and his ministers' roster this Independence Day

Ministers will be travelling across the country, picking spots from Siachin Glacier to Port Blair, to commemorate Indian freedom struggle heroes while special events like an evening Mashal Yatra (Torch March) on August 14 and a Prabhat Pheri (early morning song march) on August 9 will take place in major cities and villages.

Each Minister will visit two spots reminiscent of the freedom struggle.

The big 'Yaad Karo Kurbani' celebrations on the 70th Independence Day will be kicked off by PM Narendra Modi on August 9 when he will visit freedom fighter Chandra Shekhar Azad's birthplace in Bhavra in Madhya Pradesh, thereby giving top-most importance to Azad's sacrifice in the freedom struggle.

Home Minister Rajnath Singh will be visiting Shahjahanpur in UP, the birth-place of the famous freedom fighters, Ashfaqulla Khan and Ram Prasad Bismil, considered the face of Muslim-Hindu unity during the freedom struggle.

They were hanged by the British for the famous train robbery in Kakori, a landmark spot in UP which BJP President Amit Shah will visit.

Rajnath Singh will also visit birthplace of Birsa Munda, Ulihatu near Ranchi in Jharkhand.

HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar will visit Gorakhpur and Adilabad in Telangana. Ram Prasad Bismil and Babu Bandhu Singh were hanged in Gorakhpur, a city which also saw nine people dying after unprovoked firing during Quit India movement.

Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda will visit Lucknow and Keshpur in West Bengal, the latter being the birthplace of Khudiram Bose, one of the youngest freedom fighters to be hanged when he was 18.

Information and Broadcasting Minister Venkaiah Naidu will be himself visiting the Azad Maidan in Mumbai from where Mahatma Gandhi launched the Quit India movement, and Thoothukudi in Tamil Nadu, the birthplace of tamil poet Subramania Bharathiyar and V O Chidambaram Pillai.
