Bezos buys self-driving startup, Musk calls him ‘copy cat’

    Synopsis

This isn’t the first time Musk has taken a dig at Bezos for indulging in similar business deals.

A few weeks ago, Musk had also tweeted that it was ‘time to break up with Amazon’.
A day after tech giant Amazon.com announced that it is buying self-driving startup Zoox Inc, Elon Musk, Chief Executive Officer of Tesla, US’s leading electric vehicle manufacturer, dubbed Amazon boss Jeff Bezos as ‘a copy cat’ on Twitter.

However, this isn’t the first time Musk has taken a dig at Bezos for indulging in similar business deals. He had previously called Bezos ‘a copy cat’ when the latter’s rocket-launch startup Blue Origin was making plans for a satellite-based internet service giving competition to Musk’s firm in April 2019. A few weeks ago, he had also tweeted that it was ‘time to break up with Amazon’.

In the meantime, Amazon has agreed to pay more than $1 billion to buy Zoox. The deal falls in line with the e-commerce firm’s plans to expand its reach in autonomous vehicle technology. Last year, Amazon participated in a $530 million funding round in self-driving car startup Aurora Innovation Inc.

A Wall Street Journal report suggested that the deal could value Zoox at less than the $3.2 billion that the company raised in a funding round in 2018.
