The Indus Entrepreneurs or TiE, a non-profit dedicated to empowering entrepreneurs and startups around, has announced the fourth edition of the TiE Global Summit which will be held on November 14 and 15 at Taj Palace, New Delhi.

The theme for the TiE Global Summit 4.0 is ‘Indian Startups: Global Footprints’. The event aims to explore how Indian startups have matured and how local and global connectivity is critical to the startups’ success.

The two-day event will bring a host of startups and investors. These include Amitabh Kant, CEO, Niti Aayog, Abhijit Bose, Head of India, WhatsApp, Deep Kalra, Group CEO, MakeMyTrip, Dev Khare, Partner, Lightspeed India Partner Advisors, Falguni Nayar, Founder, Nykaa, Harsh Jain, co-founder and CEO, Dream11, and Kunal Bahl, CEO, Snapdeal, among others.

Executive Director of TiE Delhi-NCR, Geetika Dayal, told ET, “The goal of the conference is to encourage aspiring entrepreneurs, catalyze a behavioral change in the entire fraternity towards the Indian startup ecosystem, fill the gaps existing within the industry, and familiarize start-ups with global best practices.”

Following the previous editions, the event will present several startup awards such as the 12th season of TiE Lumis Excellence Awards, 3rd season of the TiE QGlue Design Awards and 6th edition of Spirit of Manufacturing Awards. TiE will also host its 9th edition of TiE the Knot- a televised live funding event that will facilitate lucrative investment deals for high-potential startups. “Some of the past recipients of prestigious awards at TiE Global Summit include MakeMyTrip, OYO, Beer Café, Wishberry, Curofy, Mishtag, Wedmegood, Edu4share (now Prozo), and PeeBuddy, among others,” Dayal said.

The origins
TiE’s journey dates back to 1992 when three Silicon Valley-based Indian-American entrepreneurs decided to bolster global entrepreneurship by bringing together all stakeholders- entrepreneurs, academia, angel investors, venture capitalists, banks, incubators, and corporates and make them accessible to aspiring entrepreneurs and budding startups.

The non-profit spread its wings to Delhi in 1999 with limited resources and opportunities for budding entrepreneurs but was committed to nurture and equip them in every way possible and inspire the next generation. Over time, with Dayal entering the party in 2001 and fostering entrepreneurship both regionally and nationally, TiE Delhi-NCR has created a network of entrepreneurs, investors and mentors. Some of the industry leaders associated with TiE include- Rajan Anandan, President, MD at Sequoia India Capital, Saurabh Srivastava, former chairman at NASSCOM, Alok Mittal, Managing Director, Indifi, Raman Roy, Chairman & managing Director, Quattro, and Sanjeev Bhikchandani, Vice President, Naukri.com, among others.

Silicon Valley-based angel investor and founder of Dot Edu Venture, Asha Jadega Motwani, told ET, “TiE Delhi-NCR has played a vital role in empowering the entrepreneurial ecosystem in the world. It offers a supportive environment for aspiring entrepreneurs and access to mentors and investors with their various workshops and conferences. I am very happy with the rising number of unicorns in India and how the startup industry is faring so well in the country with the government’s support. Indian diaspora is the most significant group in Silicon Valley and I believe a global reach for the startups will only accelerate their growth.”

TiE has also partnered with State governments to promote entrepreneurship across the country. It has participated in various advisory groups to provide recommendations to the Government for creating an enabling ecosystem in the country fo startups. The first-ever TiE Global Summit was held on October 16 and 17, 2016 and witnessed over 2500 delegates and was themed- ‘Million Entrepreneurs- Now’. The motto transitioned to ‘Fostering Entrepreneurship’ in the second edition, which was held in Mumbai.

“The idea behind the genesis of the TiE Global Summit was at providing a global stage and an aspirational knowledge-sharing platform for Indian startups. Delhi-NCR has played host to the TiE Global Summit thrice, providing the entrepreneurs to tap the wealth of industry expertise and experience of distinguished speakers, leaders, domain experts, and more,” Dayal quipped. The latest summit is being held in partnership with the leading agencies of the Government of India, 20+ TiE chapters from India, Singapore, Hong Kong, Australia, the US, the UK, and Dubai along with global venture capital funds.
