MUMBAI: Local-language mobile platform NewsHunt has acquired ecommerce recommendation platform BuyT ContentLink for an undisclosed sum, marking its entry into the fast-growing e-retailing market.

"The BuyT team is expected to play a crucial role in building the next-generation platform for NewsHunt by integrating shopping and commerce options for local-language users on the NewsHunt platform, to add to BuyT’s huge network of content publishers," the company said in a statement.

NewsHunt has 20 million monthly active users accessing mobile Internet in regional languages such as Tamil, Bengali and Telugu. The platform gets at least 2.5 billion page views a month.

BuyT ContentLink, run by New Delhi-based Rocket Science Innovations, searches all major ecommerce websites for product updates and analyzes context and user behavior on webpages. The company said it has marketing partnerships with leading online markerplaces including Flipkart, Amazon and Snapdeal.

Bengaluru-based NewsHunt earlier this year acqui-hired mobile analytics startup Vauntz and is looking to partner, invest or acquire other companies developing local-language applications.

"We intend leveraging BuyT platform to enable commerce on NewsHunt. BuyT will run as a stand-alone unit continuing its existing line of business and enabling commerce for NewsHunt users," said Virendra Gupta, founder and CEO of NewsHunt.

BuyT was founded in 2012 by IIT graduates and former Nomura Securities executives Yogesh Tomar and Biswanath Patel. "In the app ecosystem, seamless linking between content consumption and transaction apps is a challenge no one has definitively solved. ContentLink is an effort in that regard," said Patel.
