NEW DELHI: Nokia announced the launch of two affordable smartphones today in India. Giving e-tailers a miss, both will be available offline and on Nokia’s website.

The Nokia 3.1 Plus is an upgrade to the Nokia 3.1, and features a bigger screen, better battery, better camera and a higher price. The 3GB RAM/32GB storage version will be released on October 19 is priced at Rs.11499. It has a 4000mAH battery, a 5MP/13MP dual camera and a 6-inch screen. The phone features a P22 Octacore processor. There is no home button, and photos can be shot in bokeh mode. Airtel users can get upto 1TB data on plans priced above Rs.199.

Pranav Shroff, director (global portfolio strategy) at HMD Global, the company that now launches Nokia phones, said that this was an attempt to deliver value on all counts – battery, camera, screen-size and price. He said that the offline-heavy strategy was because their research showed that 60-70% of customers bought phones offline in the non-festive season. Even during the festive season, the proportion of offline buyers was as high as 50%.

The other phone launched was the Nokia 8110, a 4G featurephone with a physical keypad and high nostalgia value. It costs Rs.5999 and has a 2.4-inch screen and a 1500 mAH removable battery. The processor used is Qualcomm 205. It will be released on 24 th October.

As part of a partnership with Jio, subscribers can get upto 544GB data.
