Kolkata: Chinese smartphone major Xiaomi India may continue its scorching pace of growth in the crucial October-December quarter with the brand reporting high growth even in brick-and-mortar stores on back of record sales it posted in e-commerce.

As per a latest communication sent by Xiaomi India’s director (offline sales) Sunil Baby to offline trade, the company’s overall offline business grew by 70 per cent during this year festive season as compared to same period last year.

He has written that the smartphone business in brick-and-mortar stores grew by 70 per cent year-on-year and over 50 per cent month-on-month, while the offline TV business grew by over 400 per cent year-on-year.

“Offline was the fastest growing channel for Xiaomi this Diwali festive season. While overall business grew by 40 per cent , offline grew by 70 per cent ,” Mr Baby wrote. He has also written that Xiaomi has become the number one brand in offline sales channel in four states and 14 cities.

This comes at a time when offline trade and retail lobbies have criticised brands to be hands-in-glove with e-commerce marketplaces to offer deep discount this festive season which has impacted the Diwali sales of offline stores by 30-40 per cent this year.

Last month, Xiaomi India had announced that it had sold over 12 million devices in one month of the festive sales period (September 28-October 29). It had said this growth is despite a huge base of over 8.5 million devices sold last year, when Xiaomi was already the largest brand in the country.

Xiaomi India had said its overall smartphone sale has grown by 37 per cent during the festive season and 48 per cent for televisions.

As per latest report by tracker IDC India, Xiaomi recorded its highest ever smartphone shipments in July-September quarter with 12.6 million units growing at 8.5 per cent year-on-year. Its Redmi 7A and Redmi Note 7 Pro were the highest shipped models in the overall smartphone market. Xiaomi continued to lead in the online channel with a market share of 40 per cent in the period with four out of the five top models from the company.

In overall smartphone market, Xiaomi had 27.1 per cent share followed by Samsung at 18.9 per cent , Vivo at 15.2 per cent , Realme at 14.3 per cent and Oppo at 11.8 per cent as per IDC during the July-September period.
