    The Supreme Court on Tuesday directed that a floor test for Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to prove his majority in the Assembly be conducted on Wednesday. Fadnavis was sworn in as chief minister and NCP's Ajit Pawar as his deputy by Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari at a hush hush ceremony in Raj Bhavan early Saturday morning.

    The decision was taken at a meeting of the Uddhav Thackeray-led state Cabinet on Wednesday. Apart from a sugar mill owned by former state minister Pankaja Munde, another cooperative of Vinay Kore, leader of the Jansurajya Shakti Party which is an ally of the BJP, was also given the loan guarantee.

    Thackeray heard the entire proposals of the 34 decisions in a four-hour meeting but did not order a stay, people aware of the development said. “We took a review of the last Cabinet decisions (and) what is the current situation,” said minister Eknath Shinde of Shiv Sena. “We discussed the obstacles involved in implementing the decisions.”

    First-time MLA and Thackeray family scion Aaditya tabled the motion to elect Shinde as the leader of house. Pratap Sarnaik seconded the motion. Sena sources said party chief and Uddhav Thackeray was not keen to appoint his son as the head of the Sena's legislative unit. Uddhav Thackeray was present at the meeting held at the Sena headquarters.
