Indian consumers can expect to start buying the first set of 5G phones as early as in the first half of 2020, with some devices likely to be available in the first quarter, albeit at the higher end. However, the government prepares to auction 5G spectrum only in the April-June quarter.

The BJP needs to win at least six of those 15 seats to remain in a majority in the assembly. Trends available so far showed Congress leading in two (Shivajinagar and Hunsur), while JD(S) and an independent candidate were ahead in Yeshwanthpura and Hoskote constituencies respectively. In the previous elections, the Congress had won in 12 of those 15 seats.

"I will not speak anything about the bypoll results now. You will get to know on December 9. We will win with a lead of 25,000-30,000 votes in most of the constituencies and according to our estimate, we are confident of winning all the 15 seats," Karnataka CM Yediyurappa told reporters. He further added that people have voted for the party with this in mind.

The by-elections are being held to fill the vacancies caused by the disqualification of 17 rebel Congress and JD(S) MLAs, whose rebellion led to the collapse of the H D Kumaraswamy-led coalition government in July and paved the way for the BJP to come to power. The BJP needs to win at least six of the 15 seats to remain in majority in the 225-member assembly.

"Without giving power to the anti-defection law, we pat our back saying that we have introduced the law. What is there in the anti-defection law? To prohibit them (public representatives) from arbitrary acts of resigningwhenever they want and can be easily influenced," Kumaraswamy said.

Is Yediyurappa an enemy? Siddaramaiah and I have fought in the past, but we also shared a stage in Shivamogga and Ballari recently. No one can say what will come at what time, Gowda said. Speaking to reporters, he said, In politics, there are no permanent enemies or friends. According to the situation it keeps changing.

The Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, which seeks to provide Indian citizenship to non-Muslim migrants from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan, was passed by Rajya Sabha on Wednesday. Lok Sabha cleared the Bill on Monday.

In the clipping that has gone viral, Yediyurappa has hit out at party leaders for lack of support in "saving" the BJP government and not recognising the "sacrifice" of disqualified Congress-JD(S) MLAs, because of whom they could come to power. Kumaraswamy said he has decided to file a petition in court based on the contents of the clipping.
