Navy's woman officer to be posted abroad as defence attache

The Indian Navy has selected its first woman officer for the post of a defence attaché abroad. Sources said Lt-Commander (equivalent to an Army Major) Karabi Gogoi, a naval engineer currently posted at the Karwar base in coastal Karnataka, has been selected for the post of the assistant naval attaché also at the Indian embassy in Russia.

  • The defence ministry will be earmarking at least Rs 500 crore for its Innovations for Defence Excellence (iDEX) initiative. Expressing his support for the initiative, defence minister Rajnath Singh said at a function on Monday that India could emerge as a $10 trillion economy over the next 10-15 years if innovation talent is harnessed.
