As Shiv Sena talks to Cong-NCP, Sanjay Raut says will not get defeated

Raut on Wednesday also posted a message on Twitter to indicate tough path ahead for his party in its efforts to form government in Maharashtra with the Congress and NCP, which were its ideological rivals till recently. He has of late also been hitting out at the BJP through his Twitter posts.

  • BJP president Amit Shah finally spoke about the ensuing differences between long-term allies BJP and Shiv Sena post Maharashtra elections. He claimed to have made no pre-poll deal with the ally over rotation of chief ministership in the state. The BJP had reiterated that if the coalition gets a majority, Devendra Fadnavis will occupy the top post.

    The Congress and NCP would work out a common minimum programme (CMP) with the Sena, which would then be discussed in the meeting between Gandhi and Pawar, sources said on Thursday. It was, however, not clear whether and when Sena president Uddhav Thackeray will meet the two leaders after the CMP is finalised.

    Some senior Sena leaders are likely to reach Delhi to meet Congress chief Sonia Gandhi to press for the request. While Pawar made the request to the Ahmed Patel-led AICC delegation on Tuesday, senior Sena leader Sanjay Raut too made his party’s request when PCC chief Balasaheb Thorat and ex-CM Ashok Chavan met him on Wednesday.

    Chavan said the Congress was holding internal meetings and also holding talks with the NCP to work out a possible Common Minimum Programme if a government was to be formed with the Sena.

    A draft of the common minimum programme (CMP) will have to be approved by top leaders of the three parties before being finalised, a senior Congress leader told PTI.

    The 49-year-old BJP leader has changed his bio twice since stepping down as CM.

    Without taking any names, the Sena, in an editorial in party mouthpiece 'Saamana', said those who talk of ethics in politics are currently the "most disruptive".     Raut, executive editor of the Sena's mouthpiece 'Saamana', became the face of the party's repeated demand for chief ministership for 2.5 years and 50:50 split in portfolios ever since poll results were announced on October 24. "Next chief minister of Maharashtra will be from the Shiv Sena," Raut said while leaving the hospital around 1 pm.

    Seeking a possible alliance to form the government in Maharashtra, Congress leaders met Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray to discuss modalities of a 'common minimum programme'. President's rule is now imposed in the state following a report sent to the Centre by the governor stating that formation of a stable government was impossible.

    The Congress is in talks with ally NCP about whether the two parties should support the Shiv Sena for government formation, and on what terms.
