  • Modi, who was addressing a poll rally at Bokaro, compared Jharkhand to a youth attaining 19 years and its citizens its gaurdian and appealed to the people of the state to vote for the BJP government for the second time in a row.

The second phase of polling began Saturday morning on 20 constituencies in Jharkhand, which votes in five phases to elect 81 members of the ...

Polling will be held between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. in Jamshedpur(East) and Jamshedpur(West) constituencies, while in the rest of the 18 constituencies voters will exercise their franchise between 7 a.m and 3 p.m, an EC release said. A total 47,24,968 voters, including women and third gender voters will decide the fate of 260 candidates, the EC sources said.

The meeting-cum-open session was attended by Prasads two sons - Tejashwi and Tej Pratap who have not been on the best of terms since their entry into politics four years ago. His wife and former chief minister Rabri Devi and daughter Misa Bharti, an MP, remained conspicuous by their absence.

When asked whether he considers Delhi BJP chief Manoj Tiwari a competitor in the elections, the chief minister praised him for his singing. "Have you heard him singing 'Rinkiya ke papa'," Kejriwal quipped.

Many exit polls conducted by local TV channels in Karnataka have predicted the BJP to win eight seats or more, providing chief minister BS Yediyurappa some breather ahead of the counting of votes scheduled for Monday.

Speaker Nana Patole said that the BJP is being accorded the status of opposition party in the Assembly and Fadnavis would be the new Leader of Opposition. CM Uddhav Thackeray and some ministers greeted Fadnavis, former CM, after Patole made the announcement.

Former Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis has been facing a rebellion in his party. Against this backdrop, the meeting of BJP leaders Eknath Khadse and Pankaja Munde on Wednesday assumes significance as both leaders have been sending out signals that they were not happy with many things in the party. Before meeting Pankaja, Khadse also met former Vinod Tawde.

The Congress managed to win only Hunasuru and Shivajinagar seats, while independent candidate Sharath Bachegowda, who was earlier expelled from the BJP for anti-party activities after he contested the bypoll as a rebel, won in Hoskote.

Actor Rajinikanth said he would not support any political party in the local body polls scheduled for later this month in Tamil Nadu. He is expected to launch his party next year, ahead of the assembly polls in the state, in what will be the first full-fledged assembly poll in the state in the absence of Dravidian leaders J Jayalalithaa and M Karunanidhi.

The second phase of polling in the five-phase Jharkhand assembly elections will be held on December 7.

At a press conference here, he said the outcome of the ongoing assembly polls will be an important turning point with the saffron party on one side and secular and progressive parties on the other.
