  • NCP chief Sharad Pawar has said that many ministers in the Shiv Sena-led coalition government do not belong to political families and have made it to their positions purely on merit. Notably, 19 of the total 43 ministers in the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena-NCP-Congress government are dynasts.

Union minister Nitin Gadkari on Saturday said the BJP did not lose last year's Maharashtra assembly elections, but was betrayed by the Shiv Sena. He also said that the Sena not only left its ally, but also its own ideology.

But it is amusing to see a party changing its flag for it," the Sena said in an editorial in party mouthpiece 'Saamana'. It added that the MNS is unlikely to achieve anything from its new Hindutva stand as Shiv Sena had never shed its saffron colour.

Uddhav's remark also followed a barb from his estranged cousin and MNS chief Raj Thackeray, who, speaking at his party's function earlier in the evening, said "I don't change the colour of my party to form the government." Hitting out at the BJP, Uddhav alleged that the former ally broke its pre-poll promise (to share the chief minister's post) and tried to label him as a liar.
