  • The year 2019 saw the launch of many smartphones. However, there were some of these which were game-changers and paved the way for the next generation of smartphones. ET Wealth rounds up the top six among these.

Premium smartphone maker OnePlus is going to start production of television sets in India from this quarter, seeking to make the country its production hub for global supplies.

Under the new strategy, Xiaomi, which has so far focussed mainly on the affordable segment to become India’s top smartphone brand, will launch a number of premium phones under the Mi brand. Besides, it will expand the smart TV range with big-screen premium products. The company may also look at launching its concept phone, Mi Max Alpha, in India and elsewhere.

The smartphone-makers are developing powerful and aesthetically-appealing devices.

"We have an estimated USD 1.9 billion (about Rs 13,500 crore) in cybersecurity service business, and USD 450 million (about Rs 3,200 crore) of cybersecurity products business from India. There is also presence of multinational and Indian entities which engage in R&D in cybersecurity," IT Secretary Ajay Prakash Sawhney said.

The move by the brands is an effort to reach a wider consumer base, which is not possible by being available on a single e-commerce platform. For instance, German sportswear maker Adidas, which had an exclusive tie-up with Flipkart and Myntra, has started selling on Amazon India.

The simplicity of the test could deliver a new way to quickly identify treatments for patients.

Retailers have been relentlessly campaigning against exclusive deals, cashback offers, etc, by the two.

Xiaomi, Realme and Samsung, which play both in the online and offline space, haven’t been able to clear inventory of old models in the October-December quarter while they continue launching new devices, industry watchers said. They added that Vivo and Oppo, who play mainly in the offline segment, also face similar issues but to a lesser extent.

Cellphone retailers under the umbrella of their apex national body, All India Mobile Retailers Association (AIMRA) has informed brands like Xiaomi, Samsung and OnePlus that unless online discounting is controlled, retailers will deduct the difference and sell at online prices and may even consider boycotting the brand altogether.

These budget versions of Samsung's flagship phones of 2019 pack key premium features such as the latest camera technology, signature S Pen, immersive display and a long-lasting battery. The Galaxy S10 Lite and Galaxy Note10 Lite offer edge-to-edge Infinity-O displays. With a 6.7-inch screen size, the display is designed to provide an expansive and immersive experience.

Senior vice presidents, Ranjivjit Singh who was heading mobile phone marketing and Sukesh Jain who was leading the enterprise business, have quit, two senior industry executives said. The exits come at a time when Samsung has been facing competition from the Chinese brigade led by Xiaomi and BBK Group’s four brands - OnePlus, Oppo, Vivo and Realme.
