    The first of its kind initiative is aimed to guide responsible development and use of AI, grounded in human rights, inclusion, diversity, innovation, and economic growth. The multi-stakeholder initiative will work towards evolving better understanding of the challenges and opportunities around AI using the experience and diversity of participating countries.

    The tool, named Trust AI, uses neural network models and mathematical models to analyse live video feed automatically to monitor social distancing at the workplace. It issues an alert at the control centre and the public address system when any person fails to maintain the required distance from another person, said the company in a press release.

    The team, under the leadership of professor Debashish Chakravarty and professor Aditya Bandopadhyay, has engineered a low-cost device which can detect the gap between individuals, a spokesperson of IIT-KGP said.

    US involvement is important because of the large role that American tech firms play globally and its historic advocacy for human rights, said Kay Mathiesen, an associate professor focused on computer ethics at Northeastern University in Boston.

    Dr Joshi, who is a master inventor with more than 250 patented inventions in the US, works at the IBM Thomson Watson Research Center in New York. He was presented with the prestigious annual award by the New York Intellectual Property Law Association early this month during a virtual awards ceremony.
