  • The verdict, in favour of building a Ram temple, strengthens the political position of Adityanath ahead of the 2022 state elections, especially as no report of violence was reported across UP on Saturday when this paper went to print. He and his guru, Mahant Avaidyanath, have been champions of the Ram temple movement.

The issue seems to be dividing the Muslim community, with one petitioner Iqbal Ansari saying the land should not be accepted if it is beyond the 63-acre acquired area.

Start of the Ram temple’s construction at Ayodhya may be marked by a special event on Ram Navami, which falls on April 2 next year. Ram Navami is Lord Ram’s birthday. The temple could take two-three years to complete, government sources told ET.

He also added that such people face problems as despite all the money being stuck, they also have to pay the bank loan.

BJP brass has decided to organise meetings with Muslim community leaders to thank them for helping maintain peace and harmony after the Supreme Court’s Ayodhya verdict.

"The CM was very happy and beaming. He kept clapping as the verdict’s details were flashing and was once so overcome with emotion that he excused himself briefly from the room," sources said.

Surprisingly, most BJP leaders did not personally tweet on the judgment, but retweeted the statements of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah on the verdict. Union minister Nitin Gadkari posted a video on his official Twitter handle where he can be seen addressing the media. He said the people should respect the decision of the Supreme Court.
