  • The seven Generals, including one who had served as a defence attache in Pakistan High Commission in Delhi, were opposed to granting a three-year extension to Bajwa as this would spoil their chances for the coveted post. If Bajwa would get an extension for three years, the most senior Generals will not remain eligible for the post of Army Chief.

The Indian Army had sent a proposal to the Defence Ministry for approval. The ministry, after approving it, further sent it to the Cabinet for clearance, but due to technical reasons it has not been approved and sent back, sources said. During Thursday's hearing, the court directed the government to present a new summary for the extension in Bajwa's service. The bench also directed that the new summary should not mention any time period for which the service of army chief would be extended.
