    M&M MD Pawan Goenka said that the prime focus will be on EVs and the company will be doing things “similar to what other service providers are doing, but with a twist”. He mentioned that there is enough room to accommodate more service providers and new entries in the segment should not be of concern.

    This comes after states made little progress in setting up these centres, which was to be done following a Supreme Court ruling that mandated all public transport vehicles to have vehicle tracking systems and emergency buttons. The features were mandated from January 1, 2019.

    India’s newfound love for utility vehicles has taken the share of that segment from a mere 13% of total passenger vehicle sales 9 years ago to more than one-third so far this fiscal. In 2010-11, the auto industry rolled out 78 new cars on roads and 36 new UVs. So far in this financial year, 53 new cars have been launched, & an equal number of UVs have been launched.
