India’s newfound love for utility vehicles has taken the share of that segment from a mere 13% of total passenger vehicle sales 9 years ago to more than one-third so far this fiscal. In 2010-11, the auto industry rolled out 78 new cars on roads and 36 new UVs. So far in this financial year, 53 new cars have been launched, & an equal number of UVs have been launched.

Snowfall in Kashmir side of the highway, including Jawahar Tunnel, since Sunday has resulted in blockade of the highway. "No fresh traffic was allowed from Nagrota in Jammu for Kashmir", he said.

Family buyers drive multiple purpose vehicles sales up amid slowdown
Led by a series of new launches, the multiple purpose vehicles (MPV), or family cars, are back. The segment registered 35% growth in 2019 to 2.2 lakh units, with cars priced between Rs 6 lakh and Rs 25 lakh. By contrast, most segments of the automotive market contracted, often in double digits. So, the share of MPVs in India has risen from 5% to 8%.
