With about 8.7 lakh speakers, Hindi emerges as the most widely spoken language in the US followed by Gujarati and Telugu, reflecting a slight increase of 1.3% compared to last year. The Bengali-speaking US-based population at 3.75 lakh has shown a rise by nearly 68% followed by those who speak Tamil, showing a rise by 67.5% as of July 1, 2018.
