French firm Naval Group has termed the state-owned Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) its natural partner for the Rs 45,000-crore submarine project of the Indian Navy citing the joint production of Scorpeneclass submarines. MDL chairman, RK Shrawat, described France as a strategic partner of India.

India and Russia signed a deal in 2015 under PM Narendra Modi's ‘Make in India’ programme for the supply of 200 Russian KA 226T helicopters, with Russia to deliver 60 and the remaining to be assembled and manufactured in India. The two countries also have held preliminary talks for the supply of over 100 of the KA 226-T helicopters for the Indian Navy.

Sources said Lt-Commander (equivalent to an Army Major) Karabi Gogoi, a naval engineer currently posted at the Karwar base in coastal Karnataka, has been selected for the post of the assistant naval attaché also at the Indian embassy in Russia.
