Repealing of Plantation Labour Act 1951 will affect the tea Industry: Tea Association of India
Tea Association of India (TAI) stated ‘The Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code, 2019’, is expected to be introduced in the Budget session of Lok Sabha. Earlier this Code was referred to the Standing Labour Committee after being introduced in the Parliament for garnering inputs from various stake holders.

The plantation sector included tea, rubber and coffee industries and the Act stipulates them to comply with providing drinking water, housing, medical, education and toilet facilities to the workers besides wages. The Centre has already tabled a Bill in Parliament on occupational safety, health and working conditions code which is now under discussion.

Tea exports fall in first 11 months of 2019
Tea Board deputy chairman Arun Kumar Ray told PTI "exports have seen a marginal decline in the first 11 months of 2019 as compared to the same period in 2018. But value realisation has been higher in 2019". He said, "compared to the overall exports scenario of the country, the tea sector has not done very badly in terms of value realisation".
