Abhishek Humbad and Richa Bajpai, Founders and Co-CEOs, Goodera, talk about their one-of-its-kind, revolutionary platform that helps businesses monitor and track the impact of CSR initiatives

We founded a start-up based on renewable energy in Mahbubnagar, Andhra Pradesh, in 2014. While working on the project, we realised how a lack of transparency in the CSR space led to different issues. Taking this as an opportunity, we decided to build a one-of-a-kind CSR lifecycle management platform. We realised that there was a huge gap in the eco system; the work that was actually done on ground versus what was communicated to MNCs, the donors, had a huge gap. We realised the need to up the governance in the ecosystem and bring in transparency through technology. That's how Goodera came into being.

Why do you think automation of the process is required for CSR Activities?

There is a lot of money flowing in the CSR sector, but there is not as much measurement of accountability and impact as any other sector. Goodera's platform makes it easier for corporates to understand the impact they are creating through their CSR programmes. While any large company has softwares in place to handle varied functions, like HR, marketing, etc., for CSR, there wasn't any system in place. Our fully-automated platform ensures every project has input and output, which are transparent and easy to monitor, and impact-driven.

Goodera enables and empowers corporates to manage their CSR and sustainability goals in a transparent, measurable, and engaging manner through its innovative cloud, mobile, voice, and big data platform, incorporated with strong domain expertise.

What are the challenges that you faced?

It was a challenge to convince a large enterprise to buy technology regarding CSR. Once the initial set of clients came in and people started buying, there was an exponential increase of clients getting on board. Today, more than 150 large enterprises have adopted Goodera to effectively measure, manage, and report their CSR projects across around 63 countries.

How does this automation helps different stakeholders?

If you are a corporate or a donor, you can see how your money is getting invested on the ground. For example, if you have given money for a certain project, you can see how the project is evolving over time and the kind of work that is getting done through the dashboards that we have. Every data point is geo-tagged and time-stamped to confirm its authentication. That is how corporates use our platform to manage CSR funds. Apart from that, corporates also use our platform to engage their employees in CSR activities.

What is your strategy or implementation method to engage employees, investors, customers and stakeholders in CSR and volunteering activities?

Goodera provides corporates with automation and intelligence across monitoring and evaluation, impact measurement, grant making, reporting, and employee volunteering. Say a company has a couple of tasks which happen manually in a very inefficient manner. On our platform, these get automated, and it becomes very easy for NGOs to make reports to the concerned donors.

What are your future plans?

We bring good technology, people, and domain expertise together; the combination of these three will actually transform this space not just in India but globally, while creating social value for all the stakeholders. Goodera aims to reach out to more businesses, empower them with solutions, increase employee volunteering, and help manage CSR efforts globally.
