A diversified mutual fund portfolio for a moderate investor
If you have any mutual fund queries, message on ET Mutual Funds on Facebook. We will get it answered by our panel of experts.
1. Mirae Asset Emerging Bluechip Fund (SIP of Rs 1,000)
2. Motilal Oswal Multicap 35 Fund (SIP of Rs 500)
And now I am thinking of investing Rs 2,000 more in large cap and multi cap or hybrid funds. I want to invest for five to seven years:
Mirae Asset Large Cap Fund
Axis Bluechip Fund
Kotak Standard Multicap Fund
Parag Parikh Long Term Equity Fund
ICICI Prudential Equity & Debt Fund. Or please suggest me some good funds. My risk appetite is moderate.
We typically ask equity investors with a moderate risk profile to invest mostly in multi cap schemes. If they want to diversify and reduce the overall risk in the portfolio, they can invest in large cap schemes.

Here are our recommended large cap schemes: Best large cap mutual funds to invest in 2019
You are currently investing in a large & mid cap scheme and a multi cap scheme. As said before, multi cap mutual funds are ideal for your risk profile. However, large & mid cap schemes are meant for aggressive investors. They are not suitable for an investor with a moderate risk profile as they have the mandate to invest at least 35 per cent of the corpus in mid cap stocks.
Do not invest in too many schemes as you are investing a modest sum. At the moment, you just need one good multi cap scheme in your portfolio. As you start investing a large amount over the years, you can add one or two schemes to your portfolio. A regular investor need not invest in more than four schemes, including ELSS funds, for diversifying the mutual fund portfolio.
