  • The state has shown the total local cumulative cases at 2,008 and of deportees, migrants, and foreign returnees at 417.

  • The next phase is more expansive, allowing offices to bring back more workers, hair salons and barbershops to reopen and retailers to bring some customers into stores.

Italy records 87 new coronavirus deaths, 516 new cases

Deaths from the COVID-19 epidemic in Italy climbed by 87 on Friday, against 70 the day before, the Civil Protection Agency said, while the daily tally of new cases fell to 516 from 593 on Thursday. The total death toll since the outbreak came to light on Feb. 21 now stands at 33,229 the agency said, the third highest in the world after those of the United States and Britain.

Andhra Pradesh containing COVID-19 exceptionally well: CM

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohn Reddy said the state has been doing exceptionally well in containing COVID-19 vis-à-vis the national average but people will now have to live with the virus as it will not exit early. At present, the state has 2,841 positive cases. "On the COVID-19 front our state has fared well. ....We have to accept that we have to live with corona as it is not going to exit early," Reddy said while interacting with senior executives of the medical and healthcare sector. So far, the state has conducted a total 3.42 lakh tests, much better than the national average in terms of positive cases, recovery rate and causality rate, an official statement quoted the CM to have said during the interaction.

ICMR writes to WHO disagreeing with HCQ assessment

  • India's nodal government agency ICMR has written to the WHO citing differences in dosage standards between Indian and international trials that could explain the efficacy issues of HCQ in treating COVID-19 patients.
  • A Health Ministry official explained the context behind the ICMR and Health Ministry disagreeing with WHO's assessment, the primary point being the wide gap in dosage levels given in India and internationally.
  • A UK study into HCQ stated that continued enrolment into the HCQ arm is safe and it should press ahead with getting a reliable answer on hydroxychloroquine through the RECOVERY trial.

Gujarat: Private hospitals agree to reduce rates for COVID-19 care

  • Private patients are those who visit these hospitals on their own, against those who are referred to by the government.
  • The government has fixed the treatment charges for private patients. But nudged by the court, the Ahmedabad Hospitals and Nursing Homes Association said they would reduce the fees.
  • The fees prescribed for coronavirus patients admitted to ICU wards will be reduced by five per cent, the association said.
