Madras High Court orders issuing notice to ED on Senthil Balaji's bail plea
The Madras High Court has ordered the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to respond to a bail petition filed by DMK Minister V Senthil Balaji, who was arrested in June in connection with a money laundering case. Balaji's previous bail applications were rejected, but his latest petition argues that his health condition warrants his release. The ED has requested time to file a detailed counter. A two judge Supreme Court bench of Justice Indira Banerjee and Justice V Ramasubramanian noted that the contract of Gammon was for a Rs. 1648 crore highway project whereas that of Simplex was for a Rs. 940 crore highway project. The judges noted that using 'simple arithmetic' the contract of Gammon was more valuable and the termination of the shareholder agreement between the two companies was beneficial to Gammon shareholders.
SC deletes adverse remarks against Cyrus Mistry made in earlier order
